Five habits for healthier gums

Bleeding when you brush is not normal — it is often the first sign of gum disease. The good news: caught early, it can be reversed.

  1. Brush twice a day for two minutes with fluoride toothpaste
  2. Clean between your teeth once a day
  3. Do not rinse straight after brushing
  4. Cut down on sugary snacks between meals
  5. See your hygienist every six to twelve months

Signs to look out for

Red or swollen gums, bad breath that does not go away, or teeth that feel loose are all reasons to book a check-up.
