Fever in children: what parents should know

A fever is the body’s normal response to infection. In most children it goes away within three days.

At home

  • Offer plenty of fluids
  • Dress your child in light clothes
  • Use children’s fever medicine as directed on the pack if they are uncomfortable

Call us or seek care if your child

  • Is under three months old with a temperature of 38°C (100.4°F) or above
  • Has a fever for more than three days
  • Is unusually drowsy or hard to wake
  • Has a rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass
